What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on a website, we collect the information displayed in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and a range of browser user agents to help detect spam.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) can be provided to Gravatar to verify that you are using it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment has been approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to a web page, avoid sending images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Website visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our website, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies. This is your choice, so you don’t have to re-fill your information when you leave a new comment. These cookies will last for a year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain personal information and is rejected when you close your browser.

When you sign in, we will also set a few cookies to save your login information and screen selection. Login cookies last for two days, and display option cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember me”, your application will take two weeks. If you log out of your account, your login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie does not contain personal information and simply points to the post ID of the article you just edited. Expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this page may contain embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other sites behaves in exactly the same way as if a visitor had visited another website.

This website may collect information about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we keep your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so that we can automatically recognize and approve any further comments, instead of keeping them in line for moderation.

For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except that they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights do you have to your data

If you have an account on this page or have left comments, you may request to receive an exported file of personal information we hold about you, including any information you have provided to us. You may also request that we delete all personal information we hold about you. This does not include data that we are required to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments can be checked through the automated spam detection service.
